There’s one thing that the publisher of Rolling Stone magazine and its advertiser partners want readers to remember about a coming special issue — that it’s big, with a capital B.
The magazine, published by Wenner Media, will return to its size of 10 by 11 3/4 inches, from its current size of around 8 by 11 inches, for a special issue that ships to subscribers on May 11. Titled “The Big Issue,” it will celebrate big names in pop culture and include advertising exclusively by the Turner Broadcasting networks TNT and TBS.
The rock band Metallica will grace the issue’s cover, and inside readers will find a letter from the Rolling Stone publisher, Matt Mastrangelo. “It’s time to set your phasers on ‘massive’ ” Mr. Mastrangelo writes. “Blockbuster movies! Monster dance parties! Rock festivals! And, of course J.R. Ewing!”
Fourteen ads will run in the issue, promoting coming and existing TNT shows including “Franklin & Bash” and “Rizzoli & Isles,” and a new version of “Dallas.” There are also ads for “Conan” on TBS, and for two new series on that network, “Men at Work” and “Sullivan and Sons.”
Men at Work, thenew TBS original comedy series from Sony Pictures Television, has begun production in Los Angeles. Created by Breckin Meyer (Road Trip, TNT’s Franklin & Bash), the sitcom stars Danny Masterson (That ’70s Show, Yes Man), Michael Cassidy (The O.C), Adam Busch (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), James Lesure (Las Vegas) and Meredith Hagner (Royal Pains).
In addition to starting production, Men at Work has signed up its first guest stars: Stacy Keibler, J.K. Simmons and Kathy Najimy. Men at Work is slated to air on TBS Thursdays at 10 p.m. (ET/PT), beginning with back-to-back episodes on May 24.
Men at Work centers on four buddies who work together at a magazine. Masterson plays the recently dumped Milo, whose friends are determined to help him get back in the dating game. Lesure is Gibbs, a photographer and successful ladies man. Cassidy plays Tyler, a features writer who brings a dose of style and sophistication to the group. And Busch is Neal, a somewhat nebbish reporter and the only one in the group with a steady girlfriend (Hagner). Together, the four friends help each other navigate the treacherous waters of work, friendship and women.
Royal Pains cutie Meredith Hagner will be guest-starring on a December episode of CSI: Miami, TVLine has learned. The actress, who was also one of the daughters on FX’s Lights Out, will play a kiddie beauty pageant contestant’s big sister who harbors some jealousy toward her spotlight-hogging sibling, and thus falls under suspicion when their mother is murdered.
Julie, best known for her roles on Dexter and No Ordinary Family, will play a young mother named Elyse. After an accident on the family farm leaves her with a nasty wound that won’t heal, Dr. Hank (Mark Feuerstein) is called into action by her daughter Libby (Meredith Hagner).
